Your Initial Visits to Our Columbia Practice

Your First Visit
To find out if we can help you, we ask questions and listen

You’ll be warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. Help is on its way!

New patients often remark how “homey” our office is. That’s good, because our goal is to offer state-of-the-art chiropractic care in a comfortable surrounding.

On your report visit we explain what we found and how we may be able to help you.Make Yourself at Home

You’ll find plenty of convenient parking. You’ll be greeted by name when you enter our office and given a short tour to get you acquainted with our facilities.

After you’ve completed your admitting paperwork, you’ll meet Dr. Thiesing.

We Explain Everything First

The purpose of your consultation with the doctor is to discuss your health goals and see if chiropractic is likely to help you. If it looks promising, a thorough examination and x-rays will help us identify the cause of your problem.

Patients appreciate that we explain everything in advance!

Your Second Visit
We’ll report what we found and answer all your questions

After we study your health history and correlate our examination findings, we’ll go over your x-rays with you and help you to understand everything that we see. We call this the Report of Findings.  You will also receive your first adjustment on this visit.

This approach accomplishes several things:

  • Reduces the length of time for your first visit
  • Gives us time to correlate our findings
  • Avoids overloading you with too much information

Your Third Visit
We’ll go over your treatment recommendations

On the third day we will see how your body has responded to your first adjustment and we will go over your treatment recommendations.

  • We will give you a welcome packet with vital information about our office
  • We will discuss treatment options and the different types of care we offer
  • We will discuss financial options so you may want your significant other to be with you on this visit.

This will also be good opportunity for you or your spouse to ask questions about our office and treatment plan.

We are providers with BCBS, UHC, Cigna, Aetna, Signature, Healthspring, First Health

Regular Visits
A typical visit will be much shorter, but just as important!

Discontinuing care once you feel better predisposes you to a relapse. After the investment of time needed on the first, second and third visits, many patients become concerned that every visit will be of equal length.

In a word: no. A typical office visit may require just 10 to 15 minutes. But don’t think the brevity of a regular visit lessens its value! With the groundwork laid, we can quickly size up the condition of your spine and nervous system, adjust you and get you on your way.

Like a regular workout at the gym, each visit builds on the ones before. Miss a visit and we can lose the momentum necessary to make the needed changes.

We recognize your time is valuable. We do everything possible to run on time and minimize the impact on your busy life.

Dr. Stephen Asks some important questions of interest to Columbia residents - Chiropractor Columbia Dr. Stephen Asks...

Why is a "slipped disc" unlikely?
Separating each spinal vertebra is a disc. Its fibrous outer ring holds in a jelly-like material. Because of the way a disc attaches to the spinal bones above and below it, it can't actually "slip." However, a disc can bulge, tear, herniate, thin and collapse. But it can't slip.
Can someone who has had back surgery receive chiropractic care?
Yes. Rest assured that we will avoid the surgically modified areas of your spine. However, what we find is that surgical interventions will often produce spinal instability above or below the involved level. This is will be the focus of your chiropractic care.
